Dior revisits Folklore

The Dior Fall-Winter 2022/23 Haute Couture Collection was unveiled at the Rodin museum in Paris.

For this season, the theme of the show from Creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri, was focused on the tree of life, which portrays a symbolic representation of the world, the universe and spiritual life common to all mythologies and religions around the world.

For Maria Grazia Chiuri, it was very important to create a collection devoted to peace in the world. The collection featured artwork derived from the folkloric ‘tree of life’ motif by the Ukrainian artist Olesia Trofymenko whose tapestries featuring embroidered giant trees and floral paintings were displayed on the walls of the runway.

The collection initiates a dialogue between art and craft through the medium of couture. The intention to render a homage to craftsmanship and traditional cultures, a collection founded in the art of the folklore dress.  A variety of embroideries, with folkloric and floral patterns were presented.

The neutrals dominated the color palette of this season’s collection, but there were occasional splashes of black. Traditional pure materials such as raw linen, light wool crepes, silk and cashmere were featured and practically every garment was embroidered or adorned with a lace  patchwork.

A beautiful and exceptional show that  brings attention to cultures, tradition and life through the embroidery process of Haute Couture.
