ATHBA is a handbag brand that was established in 2017 by Saudi designer and blogger Athba Al Bassam. Specialized in luxury fashion, ATHBA uses the finest natural leathers of Crocodile, Ostrich, or Python with a combination of precious stones.
In an exclusive chat, we spoke to Athba about her eponymous brand.
Athba, please introduce yourself to our readers
My name is Athba, I am interested in design and fashion and launched my very own label of women’s handbags.
Growing up, what were your favorite brands of handbags?
I really liked the designs of Chanel and Dior.
And where are the ATHBA bags designed and fabricated?
ATHBA bags were designed in Saudi Arabia and the first collection was fabricated in Riyadh, KSA. Our latest collections are being designed in Italy.
How would you describe your brand DNA?
The brand is of oriental design with an oriental inspiration and of premium western quality.
Your pieces are mostly made of fine leathers, do you ever consider producing bags with faux leather?
Not for the moment as the brand is renowned for its genuine leather goods.
Would you say your bags are more for evening wear or daywear?
Generally speaking, our designs are classic. Some bags are designed for formal outings and others are made for every day.
And what would be the best combination of an outfit with your “Love” model for example?
Something sporty but also chic.
Saudi women are known for flaunting beautiful accessories, how would you describe their styles?
I would say ultimate elegance.
Do you ever consider expanding your brand offering?
Yes, but it has to be at the right time and place.
And what are some of your upcoming business plans?
We have just launched a brand of children’s clothes.
