If you are looking for an inspiring authentic destination then the city of Fez in Morocco oozes bygone culture exemplified by its welcoming Riad experience – day and night!.
An old traditional city where the locals still live a life as they have done throughout history
Previously the capital of Morocco for over four centuries, Fes has remained the cultural and spiritual centre of the country.
We were immediately enchanted with the enticing combination of colourful culture and ancient intrigue, with the oldest Medina in Morocco dating back to the 9th Century.
With so many seemingly unexplored streets and souks that we explored and shopped every day. Delving into the mystical Medina we found a metropolis of unassuming doorways, with a maze of narrow passageways leading to bewitching markets identified by the aromas of the spices from the various market stalls. historic experience.
Invited by the Orientale Fashion Association we happily spent our time discovering Fez and finding bargains to be had in many of the souks, and all guaranteed to create a truly memorable experience. Arriving back hot and exhausted we looked forward to being revived and refreshed by the welcoming Riad experience.
Centred on a traditional Moroccan house with an architectural design that can be traced back to the Roman era, the true Riad will have lush plants and a central fountain, but many variations exist, and modern versions have a swimming pool or a private, hammam-style spa for their guests.
Whether traditional or modern, during our trip to Fez we had the opportunity to discover some of the most extraordinary Moroccan Riads and we can truly say that the best way to understand the Moroccan tradition is to experience staying at one to enjoy an authentic local journey through an intimate encounter with the country’s distinctive architectural style.
In our quest for an authentic experience, we have selected 3 Riads and are delighted to offer a photo editorial on each with their personalized architecture.
